WAVES Conference 2012
Background:
A major conference, 'International Conference on Indus Sarasvati Age and Ancient India', was held in Atlanta (Georgia, USA), October 4-6, 1996 with over 300 participants from all over the world - U.S.A., India, Nepal, Caribbean, Belgium, U. K., Canada, Italy, Netherlands, Mauritius, Mexico, Austria, and Surinam, etc. It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago, Mr. Basdeo Panday, and participants included leading archaeologists, historians, philosophers, political-scientists, linguists, religionists, Sanskritists, Vedic-scholars, scientists, engineers and persons of medicine. The participants, being greatly impressed by the quality of presentations and organization, in the concluding session, decided to form an academic organization to hold similar conferences and to build other academic activities for Vedic studies. Nature of the Organization:
The organization is a multi-disciplinary academic society, non-sectarian, open to all persons interested in Vedic and ancient Indian studies, irrespective of their religious, cultural, racial, ethnic background and would not be governed by any ideology. The organization will serve the following purpose:
(i) Promote Vedic studies in all its forms and in all countries;
(ii) Conduct multidisciplinary activities for the study of Vedic and ancient Indian traditions including its history, philosophy, science, psychology, literature, linguistics, etc.
(iii) Support studies in various Vedic subspecialties such as chronology, ritual, philology, archaeo-astronomy, yoga, linguistics, etc.
(iv) Encourage research in all aspects of the Vedic and ancient Indian traditions.
(v) Promote universal, intellectual, and ethical traditions enshrined in Vedas and other works following them.
Research Journal and Conferences:
The association, in general, will undertake all academic and educational activities to fulfill its aims and objects. However, just now it is concentrating on:
(i) Publishing a peer-reviewed research journal on Vedic-Studies;
(ii) Holding biennial conferences;
(iii) Building strong research-study-circles in various disciplines and aspects of Vedic and ancient Indian studies.
