WAVES Conference to be Held
in Houston
June
22, 2006
The
World Association for Vedic Studies (WAVES) is proud to announce
its sixth Biennial International Conference to be held at the
University of Houston’s main campus from July 8 to 10, 2006. The
principal objective of the conference is to promote the understanding
of the Vedic (Hindu) message of harmony and peace in the world,
with the theme being “Vedic Ideas for Global Harmony and
Peace”.
Among
the scholars attending the conference and presenting papers or
participating in panel discussions are
Dr. David Frawley, Prof. N.S. Rajaram,
Dr. S. Kalyanaraman, Stephen Knapp, Prof. Janak Dave, Prof. Hope Fritz, Prof. George
Cardona and
Swami Vidyadhishanand. Also attending will be several ambassadors
of India. Topics discussed will range from the role of religion
in modern conflicts to the environment.
WAVES
was formed in 1996 in USA by a group of scholars with the principal
aim to present the Vedic wisdom in its proper form to the world.
The overall objectives of WAVES are to (a) promote Vedic and ancient
Indian studies in all its forms; (b) conduct multidisciplinary
activities for research and study of Vedic and ancient traditions
including its history, philosophy, science, psychology, literature,
scriptures, linguistics, archaeology and other related fields;
(c) support research and studies in these fields; and (d) promote
universal, intellectual, ethical traditions enshrined in Vedas
and other works of the ancient Indian origin.
WAVES
is a multidisciplinary, non-religious academic society. Its membership
is open to all including scholars and other interested individuals,
irrespective of ethnicity, religion or background.
Houston will host this conference for the first time this July.
The previous conferences were held in Georgia, California, New
Jersey, Massachusetts and Maryland. Attendees for previous conferences
have come from Australia, Austria, Bali (Indonesia), Belgium,
Canada, Caribbean countries, China, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico,
Nepal, Netherlands, UK, and USA. Numerous scholars will
attend the 2006 WAVES International Conference from all parts
of the world. Over 1000 people from all walks of life are expected
to take part in this year’s conference.
The
topics of the proposed talks and symposium in the WAVES 2006 conference
will be varied and will include such subjects as archaeology,
computer science, medicine (modern and traditional), astronomy,
Vedic tenets of peace and harmony, the environment and many more
topics. Special consideration will be given to the involvement
of the youth. An interfaith session will be part of the
conference for the first time. The
conference is co-sponsored by several local, national and international
organizations.
Registration
is required to attend the conference, which will include talks,
seminars, cultural programs and a banquet. A nominal donation
is required to attend any combination of these events or the entire
conference.
